Of all the huge '90s movies that I could possibly conjure up in my mind, Clueless is obviously the one most coveted by popular culture today. The iconic fashion as designed by '90s style lord, Mona May, has inspired several runways in the past year as well as propped up the career of Iggy Azalea to accompany that awful song, ‘Fancy’.
Those endless teenage quips are also forever lodged in our skulls, for us to pull out on drunken occasions that involve three or more women in the same place. Question being: where on earth is Cher today?
Silverstone came to prominence in 1993 as the maniacal teenage obsessive in the Crush. Her career then advanced onto starring in several Aerosmith videos (one alongside a young Liv Tyler, just to make you feel really bad about yourself) and then peaked with her role in Clueless. I mean, a role in Batman and Robin as Catwoman totally happened but, like every single other actor in that hellish failure, let’s just be polite and pretend that it didn’t.
Silverstone seems to have slipped into obscurity and remains an active actor only in the occasional Broadway production and small-time indie movie role. It’s all a bit confusing. Silverstone is also a political activist (apparently the prime occupation of all actors rolling off their apex); for PETA. Perhaps Silverstone is mostly content with the family life, after marrying front man of punk band, S.T.U.N (definitely not Paul Rudd but whatever), Silverstone gave birth to her first child in 2011. She garnered a bunch of attention for posting a video in March 2012 of her feeding chewed up food straight from her mouth into that of her son’s and subsequently having to defend her display of ‘presmastication’ (yep, it’s got a legitimate name) as a perfectly natural and ancient behaviour. Ugh, as if!
