Unless you live in some place where there is absolutely zero connection to the outside world, you will know that the Academy Awards took place today, and you will probably also know who the winners are, have seen who wore what, and, most likely, checked out a bunch of "these are the best things that happened at the Oscars" lists.
Well, we just want to draw your attention to one "best thing that happened at the Oscars": Patricia Arquette's exceptional speech demanding gender pay equality in Hollywood, which Meryl Streep and J-Lo applauded, which turned into a viral meme of Meryl Streep being incredible, which will hopefully turn into a thing which will actually create change in the pay inequality department – and not just for successful actresses who aren't exactly scraping by on minimum wage. If Charlize Theron can do it, we can all do it, right? (:/)
The choicest out-take from Arquette's speech is: "we have fought for everybody else's equal rights, it's our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America".
While a new study recently showed young women in New York are finally cracking the glass ceiling, women still earn significantly less than men across the board. The Sony hack revealed that Hollywood is not immune to this discrimination either, with A-list actresses like Jennifer Lawrence earning less than their male counterparts.
