Even though it was the absolute worst weather imaginable for a summer 2014-15 fashion presentation in Auckland last night, the spirit of the Zambesi team, and everybody else who packed out Auckland's Golden Dawn for their Marr Factory show, were contrarily super excited, mainly down to the fact that Zambesi, naturally, went their own way.
As one of New Zealand's longest running and most renowned brands, Zambesi not only represents New Zealand to the world, but represents New Zealandness back to New Zealanders: all of their product is made here and their last couple of collections in particular (but also most of them before that too) are filled with proud little nods to Aotearoa (goodie bags given away last night included patches emblazoned with either 'NZ' or Zambesi's symbolic 'Z'). Furthermore, it makes sense that an in-season presentation for members of the general public (which is what the Marr Factory shows are) include models of all shapes and sizes and levels of fabulousness, and that's exactly what Zambesi did; they commandeered a bunch of their friends and team members to model the floral, sport-inspired pieces and the label's signature, layered chiffon outfits. The highlight? Two adorable little children stomping down the runway (what I wouldn't have given to be dressed in Zambesi as a tot).
