The United Nations' Ethical Fashion Initiative unites artisans in disadvantaged parts of rural Africa and Haiti to create product, and create sustainable livelihoods via the creation of that product.
Karen Walker has been working with the Ethical Fashion Initiative since 2012, and this year the two have collaborated to produce the adorable Hiding Cat bag, Cat clutch and Cat zip purse, which are available here.
Karen Walker had this to say about the Ethical Fashion Initiatve: "Our aim is to continue to work with the EFI as we share their vision of using fashion as a vehicle out of poverty. We were extremely happy with the last project we did with the EFI and were thrilled with the big and measurable difference it made to the community. We learnt from that project that this is a very effective way for us to make a difference and from that we committed to having this be an ongoing project."
Here's some imagery of the product-making process:
Stella McCartney, Sass and Bide and Vivienne Westwood have also collaborated with the Ethical Fashion Initiative in the past.
