A scientific study has proved something every girl born in the past 30 years has known basically since they were born: that Wannabe by the Spice Girls is the catchiest pop song of them all; 'all' being every pop song written since the 1940s.
The study, conducted by the University of Amsterdam in association with Manchester's Museum of Science & Industry, analysed the results of 1200 participants in an online game, Hooked on Music. In the game the participants recorded how recognisable songs were, and they recognised Wannabe in an average of 2.3 seconds, compared to 5 seconds for other songs.
In honour of the fact that scientists have told us something incredibly obvious, our fashion director – and lifetime Spice Girl fan, just like the rest of us here at Catalogue – Elle Packham, has compiled her favourite Spice Girl images / outfits / moments. She has also made some observations:
A lot of these pictures are from the Spice Girl's photo album merchandise, of which i had 3 almost completely full ones.
Remember when Scary went through a stage of wearing reading glasses all the time? Even as a child that annoyed me.
In a lot of these pictures I feel like the photographer was just shouting "aaaand pose. Pose. Pose. Pose".
Even Geri's microphone was the best (because she was the best!!).
Say You'll Be There was their best music video hands down.
So go forth and
spice up your life reminisce!
