I was speaking to someone about Karen Walker yesterday, and said person naturally assumed the New Zealand designer started her label with sunglasses, and then moved into clothing and jewellery after the sunglasses proved overwhelmingly popular. In fact, it was the other way around, but you're all excused for not knowing that because ten years after Karen Walker launched her sunglasses label–and over 20 years she launched her clothing label–its popularity has eclipsed well, every other fashion thing to have ever come out of New Zealand. Alexa Chung wears them, Rihanna has been papped in them and, if you don't own a pair, you generally want a pair.
To celebrate her ten year anniversary Walker has re-released the most popular shapes from past collections in gold, and they're basically party sunglasses (our hangovers today after the launch event last night testify to this). So check out the campaign, shop the styles, and roll on summer daytime drinking!
