When you're the most It of all of the It Girls, you have over 1 million followers on Instagram, you've released your book, you've released your eyeliner line, the next natural step in your career, is, obviously, to release a denim line – it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy of something.
Enter Alexa Chung for AG, which will drop into stores for spring 2015. Chung had this to say about the collaboration:
"I visited their [AG] offices in LA and was delighted to discover it was also the site of their factory. I liked that it is a family business and that they are experts on denim technology," said Chung. "I found the trip incredibly inspiring and an opportunity to learn about denim and make things I had been dreaming about finding. The collection is inherently the missing pieces of my dream denim wardrobe, which, as ever, is predominantly inspired by a late Sixties, early Seventies aesthetic."
The collection is super Chung-y, which is to say evocative of the sixties and the It Girls of that era – Jane Birkin and Francoise Hardy for starters. The pieces will no doubt sell-out, and will be available on stylebop.com in Australia later this month.
As an aside, Chung shot a promotional video clip for her AG collaboration, in which she karaokes her way through Blue Denim, which is as adorable as it is pretty weird – the idea being that she's such a hog of the mic that everybody ends up ditching her. It's, like, #satiric #narcissism or something.
